OTTAWA—Sixteen people were dead after a shooting rampage in a rural part of the Canadian province of Nova Scotia, and a suspect was killed in a confrontation with police, Canadian law-enforcement officials said Sunday.
The shooting spree ranks as the deadliest in modern Canadian history. The death toll in Nova Scotia as of Sunday night surpassed the murder of 14 women at a Montreal engineering school in 1989.
