On
February 17, 2020, an article in the Deccan Herald reported that the
Israel Defense Forces (IDF) revealed that Hamas hackers had tried to
catfish Israeli soldiers in order to install malware on their phones in
order to steal information from them. According to the report, the
hackers posed on social media platforms and chat applications as
attractive women in an effort to gain the trust of the soldiers. The
hackers then tried getting the soldiers to download infected dating
applications such as GrixyApp, ZatuApp, and Catch&See, which are
laced with viruses, onto their cellphones.
