Colombia's FARC reaffirms commitment to victims of the conflict

Bogota, Feb 17 (Prensa Latina) The Colombian FARC party reaffirmed this Monday its commitment to redress the victims of the armed conflict in this country, noting they are the center of the Peace Agreement signed in 2016 by the State and the former FARC-EP.

Victims have always been at the center of the Final Agreement for the End of Conflict and the Construction of a Stable and Lasting Peace. Our commitment to them within the framework of the Comprehensive System of Truth, Justice, Reparation and Non-Repetition remains unbroken, the party assured.

Therefore, FARC stated that 'it is an affront to victims to send messages of confusion in the face of reparation, as the government has done in decree 205 of February 12, 2020.'

The commitment to materially repair the conflict's victims as established (...) especially in sub-point 3.1.1.3 of the Agreement, remains in force, the party pointed out.

Meanwhile, the party noted that the delay in administrative procedures for the receipt of the assets held back the receipt of them. An example was the intention of the Attorney General's Office to seize the assets delivered by the FARC-EP, which generated a conflict of jurisdiction with the Special Jurisdiction for Peace (JEP), which ended up directing the Constitutional Court to JEP's favor, FARC detailed.

However, the party argued that the government unilaterally considered and subsequently issued Decree 1407 on August 24, 2017, ignoring the particular situations already described that occurred over holdings and assets.

Even so, we have made our effort and bigger scope available, but the responsibility for public order and the aftermaths in the development of all activities are not our responsibility, the party added.
