Erdogan Grooming Child Martyrs
A series of tweets from AKP Watch show young, Turkish children in Germany and Austria being indoctrinated into being the next line of soldiers and martyrs for Turkey’s Islamist President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s Islamist and expansionist agenda.
AKP is Erdogan’s “Justice and Development” political party (Adalet ve Kalkınma Partisi), the conservative, Islamist ruling party in Turkey. Erdogan’s rhetoric has become increasingly shrill of late, used to accompany his latest incursion in Afrin, Syria, a Kurdish area known for being the frontlines in the fight against ISIS.
“In Germany mosques operated by the Turkish state, small children are marching in uniforms, chanting military slogans and getting prepared to die as martyr [sic] for Erdogan,” read one tweet that was accompanied by a video of the event.

Another tweet states, “The AKP is preparing Turkish children in Europe for war: In Austrian ATIB mosquesoperated by the Turkish state, young boys in military uniforms are prepared to die as martyr [sic], playing ‘dead soldiers’ who are wrapped in the Turkish flag.”
Still another reports: “In Austrian mosques operated by the Turkish state, young boys have to exercise in military uniforms, play soldiers while waving Turkish flags. Turkish children in Europe are being prepared for war by the AKP.”
In February, Clarion project reported how Erdogan was glorifying child martyrdom. In a speech criticized as child abuse, Erdogan said to a crying six-year-old girl dressed in military fatigues, “If she’s martyred, they’ll lay a flag on her, God willing.”
Since coming to power, first in 2003 as Turkey’s prime minister and then in 2014 as president, Erdogan has revamped Turkey’s education system to raise what he calls a “pious generation … that will work for the construction of a new civilization.”
His recent rhetoric includes a threat to conquer the Greek Islands in the Aegean Sea, which Erdogan views as Turkish territory as they were occupied by the Ottoman Empire.
