Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has reiterated Bangladesh government’s zero-tolerance to terrorism, reports bdnews24.comkamal
”Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said Bangladesh would be in uncompromising in its fight against any sort of terrorism and violence extremism,” Kamal told the 3rd Counter Terrorism Conference concluding in New Delhi on Wednesday.
Indian Vice-President Hamid Ansari inaugurated the three-day conference organized by India Foundation at a local hotel.
Referring to some recent acts of terrorism in Bangladesh the home minister said the situation was brought under control thanks to “relentless effort by the law enforcing agencies and active cooperation of the masses.”
He said Bangladesh will never allow its soil to be used as the launching pad for any kind of terrorist activities against any part of the globe, let alone our neighbors.
The home minister, however, regretted that despite stringent measures, some home-grown groups have become radicalised.
“In some cases, in connivance with a few radical political affiliations, some elements are trying to de-stabilise the country and thus hindering the current rapid socio-economic development by perpetrating acts of terror.
“We have also unveiled the unholy nexus between these groups and those who are against the trial of the anti- liberation war elements and perpetrators of crimes against humanity, for which they have been punished by the International Crime Tribunals,” he said.
Asaduzzaman Khan said Bangladesh has a comprehensive plan for countering terrorism.
“Bangladesh follows a counter terrorism strategy based on 4 pillars: prevention, disruption, capacity building and upholding respect to human rights,” he said.
The conference was addressed also by ministers and officials from Singapore, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Indonesia and Afghanistan.
