UN urges UK to prevent 'xenophobic' acts post-referendum

The UN on Tuesday has urged British authorities to act to stop recent xenophobic attacks in wake of historic referendum to leave EU.
“I am deeply concerned at reports of attacks and abuses targeting minority communities and foreign citizens in the United Kingdom over the last few days. Racism and xenophobia are completely, totally and utterly unacceptable in any circumstances," UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad al-Hussein said in a statement.
"I urge the U.K. authorities to act to stop these xenophobic attacks and to ensure that all those suspected of racist and anti-foreigner attacks and abuses are prosecuted," he added.
U.K. citizens voted to leave the EU in a historic referendum last Thursday, where almost 52 percent of voters rejected their country's 43-year EU membership.
Various reports, from social media or newspapers, have indicated an increase in instances of hostility towards immigrants in the U.K. since Friday.
