ISLAMABAD: Advisor to the Prime Minister on National History and Literary Heritage Irfan Siddiqui on Wednesday said that books are one of the most influential weapons against terrorism and extremism.
Chairing a meeting here, regarding various schemes of National Book Foundation, he said that a comprehensive plan would be devised to prepare the young generation for fighting the future challenges.
He said to meet the challenges and protect the young generation from extremism and negative trends, more books should be published on standard topics.
He said NBF should focus on the publication of books for children. He said libraries at educational institutions should be made more effective for promotion of book reading. He said books on various subjects should be included in the curriculum.
Irfan Siddiqui directed that special arrangements should be made for celebration of Book Day on April 22 each year. It could help create awareness about the importance of book reading.
He said that the message ‘friendship with books’ should reach everybody.
Earlier, Managing Director NBF Prof Dr Inamul Haq Javeid and senior officials briefed the Advisor regarding various book promotional schemes of the Foundation.
