Human rights fears as Tunisia votes in terror laws

Tunisia has voted in favour of the country’s new anti-terror laws after two attacks against tourists left the economy facing ruin.

There are fears the legislation could endanger the north African nation’s freedoms, which have been many years in the making.

Of all the countries that went through uprisings during the 2011 Arab Spring, Tunisia was the only one to emerge with a functioning democracy.

But in the wake of the terror attacks against tourists the new government has put stability and security over personal freedoms, campaigners have warned.
