French Minister asks FB, Google, Twitter to fight online extremism
The French Interior Minister, Bernard Cazeneuve, said he has asked Google, Facebook and Twitter to work directly with French officials during a live investigation and to immediately remove terrorist propaganda when authorities alert them to it.
Mr. Cazeneuve met on Friday representatives from the search engine and social networks during a one-day visit to the Silicon Valley and San Francisco.
Mr. Cazeneuve said he hopes the meeting is the first step in building a strong relationship between the tech companies and the French government. He said he invited them to come to Paris in April to continue the conversation.
The Minister’s visit to Northern California follows terrorist attacks in Paris that killed 17 people in January.
