Maoists Kidnap 11 Tribals in Khammam
KHAMMAM: Maoists reportedly abducted as many as 11 tribals in Pega village of Chintur mandal. However, the police did not confirm the number of the people kidnapped.
Kothagudem officer on special duty (OSD) D Joel Devis said, “We came to know about the incident but some people putting the number of kidnapped as 3 and some others 6.” He also said complete details are yet to be known.
Sources said, armed Maoists reached Pega village on Saturday night and abducted about 11 tribals who are supporters of CPM. This issue came to light on Tuesday when abducted families informed to CPM leaders. It is learnt that the Maoists kidnapped them suspecting them as police informers. Pega MPTC’s father is also among the kidnapped.
This incident has created panic in the division. Sources said Maoist party’s Sabari area committee is responsible. Maoists have been resorting to such incidents frequently. On Monday, they tried to set a BSNL cell tower on fire. Police and Maoists exchanged gunfire.
Khammam Police on High Alert
Khammam: Director Genaral of Police Anurag Sharma enquired with the police officials about the exchange of gunfire between police and Maoists at Satyanarayanapuram village on Monday. DGP instructed the officials to intensify combing operations in TS-Chhattisgarh states borders and asked the SP to put all police stations at border areas on high alert.
