Maoist’s laptop may reveal conspiracy

A senior Maoist’s laptop, seized from a Naxal camp in Abujhmad area in Chhattisgarh’s insurgency-wracked Narayanpur district, may provide vital clues to unravel the conspiracy in the massacre of 27 Congressmen by Naxals at Jiram Ghati in Bastar in May 2013.

Intelligence sources disclosed to this newspaper on Monday that security forces seized the laptop while raiding a rebel camp in the Aeder jungle under Abujhmad area in the first week of December this year.

“The laptop was the personal system of Rajmani Mandavi, secretary of Mad Division Committee of CPI (Maoist), active in Abujhmad region. The folders in the system contained vital information on Maoist operations in the country. The laptop has been sent for forensic tests to retrieve the files,” intelligence sources revealed.

According to the sources, the cyber cell of the Chhattisgarh police was able to access a few files in the system by cracking their passwords. “Some files contained live video recordings of nearly one dozen encounters, including last year’s Naxal ambush of the Congress convoy at Jiram Ghati in which as many as 27 partymen killed. The files also contained email exchanges between top rebel leaders,” sources said.

“The data stored in the laptop may unravel the conspiracy in the Jiram Ghati massacre. The laptop will be handed over to the NIA, which is currently probing the Jiram Ghati incident, for further investigation,” sources added.
