Blast in Bengaluru's Church Street, Two Persons Injured

Bangalore: Two persons were injured in a blast at Church Street area, the heart of Bangalore's commercial area, on Sunday evening.

The blast took place outside the popular Coconut Grove restaurant, on Church Street off MG Road, just after 8.30 pm.

One of the victims is an elderly woman who has been seriously injured. The other person, a man, has suffered minor injuries. Both have been shifted to a local hospital, said City Police Commissioner M N Reddi.

The police said it was a low-intensity blast from an Improvised Explosive Device, which was filled with shrapnels. The bomb had apparently been placed in a drain on the roadside.
The forensics team has been rushed to the spot. Additional police forces have been mobilised in the city, where the threat perception had been high in view of the year-end festivities.

Requesting the people for calm, the police said the situation was under control.
