Authorities Warn of Fake Money in Northern Illinois

Authorities in the northern Illinois city of Morris said they've seen counterfeit $100 bills used during transactions at local businesses.

They've alerted shops and banks to be on the lookout, asking them to contact police if they see a bill that looks bogus. The fake currency is described as older style bills with the same serial number. Newer $100 bills have security features that make it easier to distinguish fake from genuine.

The U.S. Secret Service is assisting Morris police with the investigation. Morris Police Chief Brent Dite told The (Joliet) Herald-News a surveillance video may have captured images of a suspect.

Morris is located about 50 miles southwest of Chicago in Grundy County.
