One injured as PKK-linked gunmen, police clash in Diyarbakır


At least one injured as gunmen linked to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) clashed with police in southeastern province of Diyarbakır on Friday.

In Sur district, a group of PKK sympathizers gathered both outside Melik Ahmet Mosque as well as İskender Paşa neighborhood on Friday. When the group tried to stage a demonstration by blocked the Melik Ahmet Avenue, riot police intervened to break up the protest.

Masked youth rapidly disappeared by fleeing toward connecting streets in İskenderpaşa neighborhood. Police responded with live fire when the group started to fire at police officers and vehicles. One 17-year-old boy caught in the crossfire and heavily wounded during the clashes.

The identity of boy remains unknown and his health situation is reportedly life-threatening.
