ISIS recruit from Kalyan returns home, detained by NIA

Arif Majeed, one of the young men who left their home in Kalyan to join the Islamic State, has returned to India.
Arif is currently in the custody of the National Investigation Agency in the nation’s capital. Reports state that he is being interrogated for more information on the terror group’s activities and if he has any knowledge on the 40 Indians who are reportedly being held captive in Iraq.
In July, Arif along with three others -- Fahad Sheikh, Aman Tandel and Shaheen Tanki – left Mumbai for Iraq. The residents of Kalyan were living in Fajullah, a city located 69 km from the Iraqi capital Baghdad and according to intelligence inputs, were providing technical assistance to the members of the Islamic State.
On departing, Arif, an engineering student, had left behind a letter hinting that he had left India to pursue jihad and wanted to be in 'the land of Allah' and not this ‘sinful country’.
However, later in October, reports emerged that Arif wanted to return home and even spoke to his father, who in turn sought the help of the government.
