Prensa Latina News Agency - Peace in Colombia Requires Commitment: FARC-EP


Havana, Apr 11 (Prensa Latina) Colombian insurgency stressed today at the end of the 23rd cycle of the dialogue, that peace in that South American nation requires commitment and deep changes instead of demagogical attitudes, as it h occurs at present.

Such statements of the Armed Revolutionary Forces of Colombia- People´s Army (FARC-EP) are related with recent declarations of president Juan Manuel Santos in which he affirmed that at present the peace process would think twice before ordering the arrest of the guerrilla leader Timoleon Jimenez.
The communique read by the head of the FARC-EP delegation, Ivan Marquez, reflects that the Government speaks of progress in dialogue, but continues to be in debt with the people and insinuates several and unnecessary threats to its counterpart.

Marquez reiterated the guerrilla´s desire to create a Commission for the Clearing of the Origin and Truth of the Colombian Historical Internal Conflict., necessary for the approach to the agenda issue referring to the victims of confrontation.

According to previous statements of the guerrilla, without the clearing of the facts, no reimbursement and pardon to those affected can be discussed.

FARC-EP denounced the deficient medical attention given to guerrilla political prisoners of war and the hunger strike started on Thursday by the interns of the Eron Picota Center in Bogota.

They have been informed that Isaac Arias and Mario Manuel Cabezas present bullet wounds in their legs and have not been yet given medical attention.

The guerrilla said that according to Colombian sanitary authorities, the situation responds to the lack of a general physicial at that penitentiary since December, 2013. According to the FARC-EP, over nine thousand political prisoners of war in Colombia suffer similar conditions.

They highlighted that it is essential to determine the implications of the different factors without pointing to only one of them and consider the rest as judges, when the conflict does not have a winner.

This morning the Government and the guerrilla announced progress in the construction of agreements for the solution of the illicit drugs issue, point presently in debate at the negotiating table in Havana dialogues.

FARC-EP and the Government have agreed to partial accords related to agrarian development and political participation of rural people.
