Czech Police Fire Tear Gas at Anti-Roma Radicals

Czech police have fired tear gas to disperse far-right supporters rallying against Roma who live in the country.

Hundreds of extremists tried to march to an area occupied by local Roma in the eastern city of Ostrava on Friday. Police intervened to stop them and officers were attacked with stones, according to footage shown on Czech public TV. It wasn't immediately clear if anyone was injured.

In a similar anti-Roma rally in Ostrava, about 350 kilometers (220 miles) east of Prague, more than 60 people were detained in August.

The 250,000 Roma who live in the Czech Republic endure high unemployment rates and are often targeted by far-right groups
