Wikileaks case: US military releases documents

Washington: The US military has released some court documents in the case of an Army private accused of giving classified material to the anti-secrecy website WikiLeaks.
The 84 documents released on Thursday include rulings that were read aloud in court and routine court orders.

The Department of Defence says more documents will be released after they are reviewed and edited as needed. The military has required those seeking documents in the Manning case to file requests using the Freedom of Information Act.
WikiLeaks and several journalists and news organisations have filed a lawsuit seeking timely public access to the Manning court documents. That case is pending before the Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces, the military’s highest court.
Manning is charged with aiding the enemy, which carries a possible life sentence.
