An unexploded hand grenade was also found in the police station after the attack.

Istanbul Police Chief Huseyin Capkin has confirmed the blast was the result of a suicide bombing.

Parts of a police station in Istanbul's Sultangazi district have collapsed after a suicide bomber hit the 3-floor building.

Wounded people were taken to nearby hospitals, according to the police.

The police has blocked roads and entrance to the police station which is located near the Ataturk international airport.

Initial reports said the bomber detonated the explosives he was wearing in the police station's front yard.
