Three rebels killed in Davao del Sur
MANILA, Philippines (Xinhua) -- The Philippine
government troops clashed with rebel group New People's Army in Jose
Abad Santos town in Davao del Sur on Saturday, resulting in the death of
three rebels, a military spokesman said sunday.
At around 7:15 a.m., the soldiers caught up with undetermined number of rebels at the vicinity of Sitio Datalab, resulting to a one-and-a-half hours of fighting, said Lyndon Paniza, spokesman of the Army's 10th Infantry Division.
Paniza said the rebels fled, leaving their dead comrades. Pursuit operations are ongoing against the remnants of the rebel group.
"Our troops were conducting peace and development outreach program, and as a result the civilians reported presence of armed men. Our troops checked it (information) and it resulted to the encounter," said Paniza.
