Explosions in Iraq kill 8, wound 25

Baku-APA. Two explosions killed at least eight people and wounded 25 others in two separate cities near Iraq’s capital Baghdad on Monday night, local police sources said, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

The first blast was caused by a roadside bomb in a popular pet market in Baquba, the capital city of Diyala province, some 65 km away from Baghdad, a police source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to speak to the media. At least three people were killed and four were wounded in this incident.

The second explosion happened in Hilla, the capital city of Babil province, about 100 km south of Baghdad, another police source told Xinhua. A sticky bomb attached to a mini-bus was detonated, leaving at least five killed and 21 wounded, the source said.

The dead toll could rise as some wounded were in serious conditions, the sources said.

Iraq has seen an uptick in violence in recent weeks. The main targets of attacks are security forces and Shiite neighborhoods.
