FIFA under fire for disbanding anti-racism task force
World football’s governing body FIFA has come under fire for disbanding its anti-racism task force.
Former FIFA vice-president and Jordanian federation president Prince Ali bin al-Hussein slammed the move on Monday as shameful and a betrayal of values which must be upheld by FIFA.
English football’s anti-discrimination organization also said it was perplexed by the decision.
The organization said the abolition of the task force comes at a time when discrimination, prejudice and hate are on the rise. FIFA has defended its decision by saying that the task force’s mission, which was developing strategies to tackle racism and discrimination, has been completed.
FIFA Secretary General Fatma Samoura has also reaffirmed her organization’s commitment to combating discrimination in football.
