French secret service monitoring 1,600 suspected terrorists

Paris: The French secret service has been monitoring roughly 1,600 suspects believed to be involved in acts of terror, according to the public prosecutor in Paris, Francois Moulins.
Moulins told France Info on Monday that there are actually thousands of people who have signalled possible tendencies toward terrorism, even if only to a small extent, Efe news agency reported.
Responsible for supervising the investigations on an alleged terrorist plot targeting two churches on the outskirts of Paris, Moulins noted that new suspects have emerged.
The suspects are not in direct connection with terrorist cells but they are extremists, possibly backed by foreign powers, Moulins explained.
The magistrate believes that countries should cooperate to combat terrorism, noting that problems can originate in countries that do not possess the will or legal process to confront the issues.
