New evidence shows activists conspire with foreigners to overthrow Putin: Russia

Moscow says it has found new evidence that proves anti President Vladimir Putin activists have been involved in a riot plot to overthrow the Russian government with the help of foreigners. The federal Investigative Committee (SK) spokesman Vladimir Markin said on Friday that the agency had gathered new evidence confirming earlier allegations that opposition supporters had been conspiring with “foreign citizens” to overthrow the president in a coup. Markin added the activists traveled to other countries to get training for “organizing and conducting mass riots with the purpose of overthrowing the government.” The SK formally charged leftist opposition leader Sergei Udaltsov, Leonid Razvozzhayev and Konstantin Lebedev last month with plotting mass disorder. The charges were brought against them after Russia's NTV broadcast what it said was hidden-camera footage of Udaltsov meeting officials from Georgia in Minsk to discuss mounting a coup in Russia. Sydney: WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has vowed to keep exposing secret documents and defended his whistle blowing website, two years after it published sensitive US diplomatic cables. Marking the anniversary of "cablegate", Assange said his anti-secrecy website had uncovered US attempts to hide atrocities, coerce other governments and dominate the global economy. "Since 2010, Western governments have tried to portray WikiLeaks as a terrorist organisation, enabling a disproportionate response from both political figures and private institutions,” he wrote in The Huffington Post. "It is the case that WikiLeaks'' publications can and have changed the world, but that change has clearly been for the better," he said. “Two years on, no claim of individual harm has been presented, and the examples (cables) above clearly show precisely who has blood on their hands,” he added. That was quickly followed by a car bomb targeting emergency response teams. The explosions, which occurred in a busy commercial area, killed at least 29 people and wounded as many as 90, a police officer said, making it the deadliest attack in the city this year. Twisted and charred vehicles were left outside damaged stores as shopkeepers collected their strewn merchandise from the bloodstained pavement. Hillah is 95 kilometers (60 miles) south of Baghdad... ANBAR, Iraq | Fri Nov 30, 2012 1:07pm EST (Reuters) - Masked gunmen hijacked a bus carrying 20 police recruits in northern Iraq on Friday and took them to a remote area bordering Syria where al-Qaeda operates, police sources said. The kidnappers, armed with machineguns and rocket propelled grenades, seized the vehicle on the road from Mosul to the capital Baghdad and took the recruits to Anbar province, said officers. "There were 20 volunteers coming from Mosul on their way to Baghdad. They stopped in a restaurant to get lunch in Baiji and when they left, gunmen kidnapped them," said a senior police officer from the area who declined to be named. Anbar was almost entirely controlled by al Qaeda during the height of Iraq's insurgency from 2005-07, until most of the militants were pushed out by local tribesmen and U.S. forces. He faces life imprisonment if he is convicted of the most serious charge that he "aided the enemy," but his defense team argues that the case should be thrown out because of Manning's unduly harsh treatment in jail. The soldier, who broke his silence in the case on Thursday by testifying at a pre-trial hearing near the US capital, was being cross-examined by military prosecutors. Omar Shafik Hammami And Raddulan Sahiron Added To FBI's Most Wanted Terrorist List

A U.S. citizen who allegedly joined a terrorist group in Somalia and a man from the Philippines accused of kidnapping an American in 1993 are the newest additions to the FBI's list of most wanted terrorists. Alabama native Omar Shafik Hammami eluded law enforcement authorities, who issued a warrant for his arrest on terrorism charges in 2007. The FBI claims that as early as 2006 Hammami, 28, provided assistance to al-Shabaab, a militant group that the Department of State calls a terrorist organization. He reportedly went to Somalia in 2007 to fight invading Ethiopian forces. It's believed that Hammami -- who uses the alias Abu Mansour al-Amriki -- remains in Somalia as a leader in al-Shabaab. To some, Hammami is the rapping jihadi who's released six hip hop songs with extremist lyrics, according to ABC News. Mexico disputes House GOP report alleging Iran, Hezbollah are using Mexican drug cartels

A spokesman for Mexico’s ambassador to the United States, Arturo Sarukhán, told The Daily Caller his country’s government disputes a recent House GOP report alleging that Iranian and Hezbollah terror operatives are using Mexican drug cartels as a conduit to infiltrate the United States. Last week, the House Homeland Security Committee Subcommittee on Oversight, Investigations and Management released a report titled “A Line in the Sand: Countering Crime, Violence and Terror at the Southwest Border.” The report found that the “Southwest border has now become the greatest threat of terrorist infiltration into the United States.” It specifically cited a “growing influence” from Iranian and Hezbollah terror forces in Latin America. The Mexican government disagreed with that assessment. “The Government of Mexico, as it has done in the past, reiterates that no such relationship or presence exists,” Ricardo Alday, a spokesman for Mexico’s ambassador to the United States, wrote in a le

Peru's rebels turn to politics after fail of terrorist tactics

Alaska News & Features Two decades ago, security forces captured the Shining Path's messianic leader, precipitating the group's rapid military decline. Now, supporters of the Maoist insurgent group that once bathed Peru in blood are attempting a comeback. Pushing the group’s fundamentalist agenda and calling for the release of those convicted of terrorism, the Movement for Amnesty and Fundamental Rights (MOVADEF, as it is known here) is winning adherents among a new generation with no memories of the horrors of the 1980s and early 1990s. The movement started in 2009, claiming to be against “globalization” and “imperialism” and seeking to take advantage of unrest among the poor. It is now increasingly drawing support from those who believe that President Ollanta Humala, elected in 2011, has betrayed campaign promises to help them. It has made inroads in Peru’s universities and unions, most notably SUTEP, the teachers’ union. This year it attempted to register as a

"I have an idea who it is, but I'm not 100 percent sure yet," said Thavisay, 25, a former casino blackjack dealer. Stalking is part of the curriculum in the Cyber Corps, a two-year program at the University of Tulsa that teaches students how to spy in cyberspace, the latest frontier in espionage. Students learn how to rifle through trash, sneak a tracking device on cars and plant false information on Facebook. COMPUTER students are being taught about online security in a new initiative at Nottingham Trent University. The university has teamed up with network security firm Stonesoft to work with students in the School of Computing and Informatics. The deal will involve the company providing the university with information on cyber security and associated threats, such as computer hacking. Catalonia Holds Vote That Could Reshape Spain

Spain's wealthy region of Catalonia votes today in an election that could determine whether it eventually breaks away from the rest of the country. Opinion polls show that most voters will cast ballots for pro-independence parties, with Catalan President Artur Mas expected to win re-election. Mr Mas has advocated independence despite strong resistance from Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy, who has been fighting deep recession in his country. "I hope to be the last president of a Catalonia that the Spanish state is trying to destroy," Mr Mas told a recent campaign rally for his conservative Convergence and Union Party. "The next one will not depend on the Spanish state and they will no longer be able to destroy it," he told supporters, who chanted back to him: "Independence! Independence!" I

Gaza's children also headed back to school in their hundreds of thousands, in another indication normal life was returning after eight days of fierce cross-border fighting in which 166 Palestinians and six Israelis were killed. Nonetheless, senior Hamas leader Mahmoud al-Zahar showed how fragile the ceasefire remained, with defiant remarks to reporters of how the Islamists would go on smuggling in weapons "by all possible means", including via Israel's arch-foe Iran. A statement from the office of Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh said Egypt had notified them that "Israel has allowed Palestinian fishermen to fish in Gaza's waters at a distance of 6 miles (10 km), up from 3 miles". The Egyptian-brokered truce deal agreed on Wednesday calls o
