PESHAWAR - A bystander was killed and 11 other persons were injured, when explosives apparently planted in a car targeted a US Consulate vehicle on Jamrud road, near Customs House in University town Peshawar, on Friday morning.
Police sources said that the bomb was planted in a Suzuki car parked alongside the US Consulate vehicles.
The explosives were detonated with remote control, when the US Consulate vehicles coming from American Club came under attack at the intersection.
Both the vehicles were bullet proof in which of one the vehicle smashed with electricity pylon, near by soon after the powerful blast. ‘Two US diplomats were slightly injured in a car bomb blast on Jamrud road’, US Embassy spokesman Alberto Rodriguez said.
He said that one vehicle was damaged and there is no death among their personnel and there are no serious injuries. He said that only one car was hit and inside that car there were US diplomats and a Pakistani driver.
The killed person was identified Amjad son of Bashir while the injured were identified Bilal Zeb son Jehanzeb resident of Gharib Abad, Noor-ul-Haq son of Abdul Haq resident of Jamrood, Saifur Khan son of Nawabzada resident of Kashkal, Ihasanullah son of Gul Rahim resident of Hindo Daman, Syed Hasan Ali Shah son of Syed Sardar Ali Shah, Zahid son of Muhammad Ashraf resident of Bara Gat, Zahid Awan son of Muhammad Younis resident of Faqir Abad and Bela Gula daughter of Gulzar resident of Afghanistan. All the injured were rushed to Khyber Teaching Hospital Peshawar.
Soon after the incident police and Bomb Disposal Squad rushed to the blast site and cordoned off the area. According to Bomb Disposal Squad, around 50 kg low quality explosive materials were used in the attack.
‘Both the vehicles came out from American club and were on their way to US Consulate, when came under the attack of an already parked Suzuki vehicle, Chief of Capital City Police Liaquat Ali Khan informed.
